"Home does not depend on walls.
Surrounded by the sea and the bones of an old building, this beautiful location felt so right for this concept. The sea, in many ways, is the only connection Palestinians in the diaspora have to Palestine, and for Palestinians in Gaza the sea offers a sense of escape - a sense of freedom and endless possibilities.
Inspired by images of Palestinians sitting on armchairs and other elements of the home, amongst rubble even after their homes have been destroyed - I brought my own piece of home, a rug, for this shoot. A simple way to convey the message that despite what Israel's colonial state tries to destroy, whatever they rename our streets and cities - the land will always remain our home and will always be Palestine, because home does not depend on walls.
Soon, Palestinians will venture as far into the sea as they like without being shot by Israeli occupation forces, our kids will play football on the beach without being sniped and the displaced generations will no longer be looking at their home from across the sea, but will find themselves on the other side.
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free."
